Activation

Before you start

Make sure NFC is enabled on the phone used for activation. Use one of these supported setups:

An NFC-capable iPhone with the Haltian Field app
An Android device with the NFC Tools app by Wakdev, or another NFC read/write application capable of writing a text record to the tag

There are two ways to activate the tag: using a magnet, or using a phone’s NFC functionality.

Activate the tag with a magnet

Place a magnet at the middle of the front of the tag.
The tag LED blinks to indicate activation.

Activate and verify with the Haltian Field app (iOS)

Open the Haltian Field app and use its NFC tag function.
Select Switch ON to activate the tag, or Switch OFF to deactivate it.
Use Read to check the current status reported by the tag.

Activate the tag with NFC Tools (Android)

Open NFC Tools on the Android device.
Hold the tag against the back of the phone so the app can read its technical data.
Open the Write tab and select Add a Record.
Select Text and enter start in lowercase.
Make sure there is no trailing space after start.
Select OK, then select Write.
When the app displays Approach NFC Tag, hold the tag against the back of the phone again.
Confirm the activation by checking that the tag LED flashes.

The NFC transmitter location varies between phone models, so move the tag across the back of the phone if it is not detected immediately.

Installation

Before installation

Verify that the HITS infrastructure is operating:

The gateway is installed and started.
EH Locators are installed and started, with at least one Locator operating in router mode within range.
The tag can communicate with the installed positioning infrastructure.

Keep the distance to the nearest installed tag below 20 m as a deployment guideline. During installation, avoid strong nearby RF sources such as Wi-Fi routers.

Choose the installation location

Keep the installation temperature below +60 °C during operation.
Choose a location where the tag is protected from impacts.
Avoid placing the tag deep inside metal structures, which can reduce signal quality.
Use a dry, suitable mounting surface and appropriate mounting hardware.

The Confidex Slim tag is rated IP64: dust-tight and protected against splashing water. This rating does not make the tag suitable for immersion or high-pressure water exposure.

Troubleshooting

The phone does not detect the tag

Confirm that NFC is enabled.
Hold the tag against the back of the phone.
Move the tag across the phone because NFC transmitter locations vary by model.
On Android, confirm that NFC Tools is open.

Activation does not complete

Enter exactly start in lowercase.
Remove any trailing spaces from the text record.
Select Write after creating the record.
Read the tag again and check whether the status is On.
Repeat the read/write operation if necessary.

The LED does not flash

Repeat the NFC write operation and hold the tag directly against the phone when the app displays Approach NFC Tag.
