Configuration
Overview
Thingsee BEAM sensors are preconfigured from the factory with optimal default settings for most fill-level monitoring applications. Configuration changes are performed remotely by Haltian support.
To request configuration changes, contact support@haltian.com with your sensor IDs and desired settings.
Default Configuration
| Parameter | Default Value | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Measurement interval | 300 s (5 minutes) | Distance sampling frequency |
| Report interval | 3600 s (1 hour) | Heartbeat if no change detected |
| Ranging mode | Short range (40–1300 mm) | Default measurement range |
| Ranging timing budget | 50 ms | Balance between accuracy and power |
| Ranging ROI | X1=4, Y1=4, X2=11, Y2=11 | Default beam width |
| Accelerometer | Disabled | Optional tilt detection |
| Temperature | Disabled | Optional temperature reporting |
| Network role | Routing | Participates in mesh routing |
Configurable Parameters
Measurement and Reporting Intervals
| Parameter | Range | Default | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Measurement interval | 10 s – 24 h | 300 s (5 min) | How often the sensor measures distance |
| Report interval | 600 s – 24 h | 3600 s (1 hour) | How often the sensor reports when no change detected |
Battery life impact:
| Measurement Interval | Expected Battery Life |
|---|---|
| 1 minute | Up to 3 years |
| 5 minutes (default) | Up to 4 years |
| 15 minutes | Up to 5 years |
Ranging Mode
| Mode | Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Short range (1) | 40–1300 mm | Dispensers, small bins, shelves |
| Long range (2) | Up to 4000 mm | Large bins, tanks, tall containers |
Use short range for better accuracy when the target is within 1.3 m. Switch to long range only when measuring distances above 1300 mm.
Ranging Timing Budget
Controls the trade-off between measurement accuracy and power consumption.
Short range values: 15, 20, 33, 50, 100, 200, 500 ms Long range values: 20, 33, 50, 100, 200, 500 ms
- Lower values (15–33 ms): Faster, lower power, more noise
- Default (50 ms): Balanced accuracy and power
- Higher values (100–500 ms): Best accuracy, higher power consumption
Ranging ROI (Region of Interest)
Controls the beam width and direction using a 16×16 sensor matrix (coordinates 0–15).
| Parameter | Range | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| X1 | 0–15 | 4 | Left boundary |
| Y1 | 0–15 | 4 | Top boundary |
| X2 | 0–15 | 11 | Right boundary |
| Y2 | 0–15 | 11 | Bottom boundary |
- Default (4,4,11,11): Standard beam width (~21°)
- Wider ROI (2,2,13,13): Broader detection cone (~27°)
- Narrower ROI (6,6,9,9): Focused beam (~15°)
- Minimum size: 4×4 matrix (e.g., 6,6,9,9)
Adjust ROI to match the target size and installation geometry.
Optional Sensors
These sensors are disabled by default but can be enabled via support:
| Sensor | Values | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| Accelerometer | 0=disabled, 1=enabled | Detect sensor tilt or tampering |
| Temperature | 0=disabled, 1=enabled | Monitor ambient temperature alongside distance |
Network Role
| Role | Description |
|---|---|
| Routing (default) | Sensor participates in Wirepas mesh routing for other devices |
| Non-routing | Sensor only transmits its own data (lower power, but reduces mesh coverage) |
Requesting Configuration Changes
Contact support@haltian.com with:
- Sensor IDs (vendor serial numbers)
- Parameters to change
- Desired values
- Use case context (helps support recommend optimal settings)
Configuration changes are delivered remotely via the Wirepas mesh network. Changes take effect on the next sensor uplink (typically within the current measurement interval).
