Installation
Before You Begin
Package Contents
Verify you have received all components:
- Haltian Gateway XS unit
- 12V DC power supply
- Cellular antenna (SMA connector)
- 2.4 GHz radio antenna (SMA connector)
- Mounting accessories (TBD)
Additional Requirements
You will need:
- Power outlet: Standard AC outlet appropriate for your region
- Network access: Cellular coverage at the installation site
- Tools: Screwdriver for mounting (if required)
Pre-Configured Connectivity
Cellular connectivity and SIM card are configured by Haltian before delivery. The gateway connects to the cellular network automatically after power-on — no SIM installation or network configuration is required by the customer.
Verify that the installation location has adequate cellular network coverage before permanent mounting.
Antenna Installation
Install both antennas before powering on the gateway.
Handle antenna connectors with care. Cross-threading the SMA connectors can permanently damage the antenna port. Always start threading by hand before tightening.
Cellular Antenna
- Identify the cellular antenna port (labeled on the gateway housing)
- Align the SMA connector straight with the port — do not insert at an angle
- Turn the connector clockwise by hand until finger-tight
- Do not over-tighten — finger-tight is sufficient for a secure connection
2.4 GHz Radio Antenna
- Identify the 2.4 GHz antenna port (labeled on the gateway housing)
- Align the SMA connector straight with the port
- Turn the connector clockwise by hand until finger-tight
- Verify the antenna is stable and does not wobble
Do not swap antennas. The cellular and 2.4 GHz antennas are tuned for different frequencies. Using the wrong antenna on a port degrades performance.
Power Connection
12V DC Power Setup
Connect power cable to gateway
- Insert the DC power connector into the gateway power port
- Ensure secure connection — the connector should seat firmly
Connect to power outlet
- Plug the power supply into an AC outlet
- The gateway begins its boot sequence automatically

Use only the included power supply. Using a different voltage or adapter may damage the gateway and void the warranty.
Physical Installation
Mounting options are being finalized. Detailed mounting instructions will be updated once the available accessories are confirmed.
Horizontal Mounting Bracket
For wall or surface installations:
- Attach the Horizontal Mounting Bracket to the gateway using the provided screws
- Select a mounting location considering:
- Cellular signal strength
- Central position relative to sensor coverage area
- Access for maintenance
- Mark mounting holes on the surface using the bracket as a template
- Install appropriate wall anchors for your surface type
- Secure the bracket to the surface with screws
- Verify stable mounting
Placement Considerations
This device is not ruggedized and must only be installed indoors. It is not rated for outdoor use, moisture, rain, or extreme temperatures. Always install in a dry, sheltered indoor environment.
- Temperature: Ensure ambient temperature stays within 0°C to +60°C
- Ventilation: Allow clearance around the unit for airflow
- Antennas: Position antennas vertically for best signal when possible
- Avoid: Direct sunlight, moisture, excessive vibration
Initial Startup
Boot Sequence
After connecting power, the gateway boots automatically. The initial startup takes approximately 60–90 seconds.
The gateway does not have user-visible status LEDs in the current version. Use Haltian Studio to verify connection status.
Verify Network Connection
The gateway establishes a network connection automatically after boot:
- Cellular (LTE): Connects automatically using connectivity pre-configured by Haltian — no customer action required
To verify the connection is established:
- Wait 2–3 minutes after power-on for the gateway to complete boot and network registration
- Log in to Haltian Studio
- Navigate to Devices → Gateways
- Locate the gateway by UUID
- Verify:
- Status: Online
- Last Seen: Recent timestamp (within 1–2 minutes)
- Cellular Connection: Active (if using LTE)
Sensor Deployment
After gateway installation:
- Position sensors within range of the Wirepas Mesh network (up to 25 m per hop indoors)
- Power on the sensors — they join the configured Wirepas Mesh network automatically
- Verify that the sensors appear in Haltian Studio and begin reporting data
- Allow 15–30 minutes for the mesh network to form and stabilize
No manual sensor-to-gateway assignment is required. In deployments with multiple gateways, Wirepas routes sensor messages to an available gateway sink.
Post-Installation Checklist
After initial startup, verify:
- Antennas securely connected (no wobble, finger-tight)
- Power supply connected and stable
- Gateway appears online in Haltian Studio
- Signal quality acceptable (if cellular)
- Gateway named appropriately in Studio
- Firmware version verified in Haltian Studio
- Physical mounting is secure
