Haltian NANO Tag

World’s smallest smart asset tag with up to 5 years battery life for large-scale indoor tracking

Overview

Haltian NANO Tag is the world’s smallest smart asset tag designed for large-scale indoor deployments in warehouses, production lines, and office logistics. These wireless tags attach to objects or assets to digitally track their real-time location via Wirepas mesh networks.

The tag communicates with Haltian EH Locators using Wirepas 5.2 Direct Advertisement (DA) protocol, ensuring reliable and secure communication with multi-year battery life.

Key Features

  • Ultra-compact design - 25.4 × 12.7 × 7.2 mm (≈ 1.0" × 0.5" × 0.28")
  • Lightweight - Only 3 grams
  • Long battery life - Up to 5 years in typical scenarios
  • Motion-aware - Integrated accelerometer for smart reporting
  • Wirepas DA protocol - Reliable BLE mesh communication
  • Indoor rated - IP40 for indoor use
  • Temperature range - 0°C to +50°C operating

Primary Use Cases

Warehouse Inventory & Material Flow

  • Periodic presence updates for pallets, bins, and containers
  • Movement events for tools and equipment
  • Work-in-progress tracking on production lines

Office/Logistics Micro-Assets

  • Lightweight items where small size matters
  • Low visual footprint requirements
  • Shared equipment tracking

Healthcare & Facilities

  • Medical equipment location
  • Wheelchair and bed tracking
  • Portable device management

How It Works

Motion-Aware Reporting

The NANO Tag operates in two modes based on movement detection:

ModeBehaviorDefault Interval
StaticTag at rest, minimal reportingEvery 24 hours
DynamicMovement detected, frequent updatesEvery 2 minutes

State Transitions:

  1. Movement detected → Immediate position report → Switch to dynamic mode
  2. Continuous motion → Report every 2 minutes while moving
  3. Motion stops → Final position report → Return to static mode

Both cadence and motion sensitivity are configurable via Haltian Operations Cloud.

  1. Tag broadcasts BLE advertisement with unique identifier
  2. Multiple EH Locators receive signal and measure RSSI
  3. RSSI data sent to cloud via gateway
  4. Cloud calculates position using multilateration
  5. Position available via MQTT, GraphQL, or Parquet

Installation

Attachment Options

The NANO Tag can be attached using:

  • Adhesive tape - Double-sided mounting tape
  • Cable ties - Through mounting holes
  • Clips/holders - Custom mounting accessories
  • Direct adhesive - Industrial adhesive for permanent mounting

Best Practices

  1. Orientation: Mount with logo facing outward for visual identification
  2. Clearance: Avoid metal enclosures that block RF signal
  3. Height: Position at consistent height across assets for accurate tracking
  4. Accessibility: Consider battery replacement access if needed

Data Access

MQTT Topic

Tag position data is available on the standard measurement topic:

hiot/<org-id>/device/<device-uuid>/measurement

Troubleshooting

Tag Not Reporting

  1. Check battery - Query battery level via API
  2. Verify coverage - Ensure sufficient EH Locators in area
  3. Check motion - Static tags report infrequently by design
  4. Network status - Verify gateway connectivity

Inaccurate Position

  1. Locator coverage - Need 3+ locators for accurate multilateration
  2. RF interference - Check for metal obstructions
  3. Locator placement - Verify locator positions are configured correctly

Short Battery Life

  1. Excessive motion - Vibrating equipment drains battery quickly
  2. Reporting interval - Consider longer intervals for static assets
  3. Environment - Extreme temperatures reduce battery capacity
