Overview

Thingsee One was Haltian’s pioneering IoT developer device, launched in August 2015 following a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. It was designed to make IoT prototyping accessible to developers without extensive hardware expertise.

Unlike development boards like Arduino or Raspberry Pi, Thingsee One came fully assembled and ready for immediate deployment with:

  • Built-in 2G cellular modem for direct cloud connectivity
  • GPS/GLONASS receiver for outdoor location tracking
  • Multiple environmental sensors
  • Rechargeable battery with USB charging
  • Companion mobile app for configuration

Thingsee Creator

Thingsee One was programmed using Thingsee Creator, a visual programming tool that allowed developers to create IoT applications without traditional coding:

  • Drag-and-drop interface
  • Purpose-based programming model
  • Cloud-based configuration
  • Over-the-air updates

Use Cases

Thingsee One was used globally for various IoT prototyping scenarios:

  • Asset tracking - Fleet and equipment monitoring
  • Environmental monitoring - Temperature and humidity logging
  • Motion detection - Movement and orientation sensing
  • Proof of concept - Rapid IoT application prototyping

Notable users included companies like Cisco Systems who used Thingsee One for prototyping new IoT concepts.

Key Differences from Current Products

Connectivity Changes:

  • Modern Thingsee devices use Wirepas mesh or LoRaWAN instead of direct cellular
  • Gateway-based architecture provides better battery life and coverage
  • No SIM card required for device operation

Platform Changes:

  • Data is now available through Haltian IoT platform
  • MQTT and GraphQL APIs replace legacy REST API
  • Improved data analytics and visualization
